National Association of Latino Arts and Culture(NALAC) was founded in 1989 in response to a   need for a service organization for Latino arts and cultural organizations and artists. At that time       mainstream arts service organizations did not specifically provide Latino arts and cultural organizations with services or advocate on their behalf. In addition, no entity convened the constitu-

tuents in the Latino arts field, advocated for their inclusion in government and private support for the arts, or provided Latino organizations with technical assistance in program and organizational development. For this reason, a group of Latino artists, activists and administrators created a service organization to meet the needs in Latino communities across the country. Today NALAC serves more than 300 Latino arts organizations in the United States, including organizations found in Mexican American, Puerto Rican, Cuban, Dominican, Central American, and South American communities within the United States.
